AUSTIN, Texas – 360 Condominiums officially topped-out today with a ceremony and barbecue lunch that paid special tribute to 360’s construction team for the hard work and safety efforts put into the completion of the 44-story structure.
Approximately 500 JE Dunn construction workers attended the topping-out ceremony at Republic Square Park, which featured remarks by Downtown Austin Alliance Executive Director Charlie Betts, JE Dunn Vice President Allan Dedman, Novare Group Senior Vice President of Development Billy Holley and Andrews Urban President Taylor Andrews. The topping-out ceremony culminated with the raising of a Texas Live Oak tree to the top of the residential building, which is one of the tallest structures in Central Texas.
The topping-out custom dates back to 700 A.D. when Europeans believed that every tree had a spirit. When a structure was completed, workers would hoist the uppermost part of a tree to the top of the structure to honor and thank the forest for its sacrifice. When the custom came to America and iron and steel began to replace timber as primary building materials, the ironworker trade adopted the custom and turned it into its current ceremony using a crane.
“We understand the value in publicly thanking our construction team for the tireless hours they put into safely building such a prominent and meaningful structure for our community,” said Dedman. “JE Dunn takes great pride in completing projects safely, on time and with high quality construction, and 360 is a prime example of that commitment.”
The 44-story condominium tower, developed by Novare Group Holdings, LLC and Andrews Urban, LLC, will feature 430 residences and approximately 14,500 square feet of street-level retail space. Upon completion in early 2008, the 567-foot-tall tower will be one of the tallest buildings in downtown Austin and a prominent addition to the skyline.
“The topping out of 360 is a special moment for Austin,” said Andrews. “It represents a milestone for our great city by bringing high-density, mixed-use development to our urban core.”
Located at 360 Nueces Street, the building features sleek, contemporary architecture with a lighted glass spire facing Lady Bird Lake and limestone accents at street level.
Resident move-in is anticipated to begin the second quarter of 2008. The homes will feature large balconies, kitchens with granite and stainless steel finishes, 10-foot-tall ceilings and ultra-high speed Internet access. In addition, the building will offer 24-hour concierge services, a resort-style pool and health club-quality fitness and social centers. For more information, visit www.lifesurroundsyou.com.
