A Note about County Land Use Legislation
11-08-2007

We're glad to have you in the Doucet & Associates web site and pleased that you're interested in learning more about county subdivision authority and land use regulations.

Doucet & Associates has been a leader in the discussion over county regulatory authority for years. We recognized long ago that if Texas is to continue its current growth patterns then a strong, vibrant county government structure is absolutely vital to the future of the state.

Our Land Use and Planning department, headed by Duane Hutson, has followed these issues closely. Duane is a nationally certified planner (AICP), and his team of planners, GIS specialists, and others has a depth of experience working with, and for, Texas counties.

Duane's predecessor as head of the planning team was Jeff Barton, who worked as a county commissioner before coming to Doucet. Later he contracted with the Texas Association of Counties to work on subdivision regulation issues, and is now back in county government again as a Hays County commissioner. Jeff remains affiliated with Doucet. In addition to his recent article in County Progress Magazine on this topic, he speaks frequently on county growth management and development regulation around the state, and has been a regular at the Texas Legislature on the issue.

We were glad to see Jeff give an update on the latest legislation for County Progress. Please go to our "news" section and find additional information. We hope you find this supplementary information useful. If our firm can ever be of assistance with planning issues – or engineering – please don't hesitate to call.
