H-E-B has submitted its final construction
plans to city officials and has begun preliminary construction on
its plus store at RM 2243 and U.S. Highway 183. Although the company
cannot begin construction of the actual structure until the city
officially approves the plans, H-E-B received approval for site
preparation. The city's planners will review the construction plans
before issuing a building permit. An official groundbreaking ceremony
is expected sometime in the coming weeks. The Leander store, has
ballooned to more than 142,000 square feet. An additional 8,550
square feet will make up the store's Texas Backyard - a gardening
center. The company purchased 137 acres of land in Leander and spent
$800,000 to straighten RM 2243 for drainage and road improvements.
